Raymond PEYNET is born in 1908 in Paris. He publishes his drawings in the Paris press : Le rire, rire à deux, Paris Magazine, the Boulevardier…. And this is in 1942 that Raymond PEYNET’s life is going to change.
Raymond PEYNET had a confidential letter to give to a correspondant in Valence. He came to the appointment, was sat on a bench in front of the music bandstand (listed historical monument since 1982).
Waiting for him and as he always has a rough drawing notebook, he hecided to draw the Valence bandstand, musicians, one with long hair and above all a young lady listening to the concert : the Peyned lovers were born.
He becomes recognized immediately and takes part in the popular patrimony.
The Raymond PEYNET lovers are known all over the world… on ceramics, in puppets, in books, in statues (like the one ericted at Hiroshima in Japan) everything which symbolizes love !
Brassens said that he never had written the song “les Bancs publics” without the Raymond PEYNET lovers.
Charles AZNAVOUR has also written a song dedicated to the Raymond PEYNET lovers sang by Marcel AMONT and called “Les amoureux de papier”
